Services

Our SLP team provides a full range of services for children with speech, language, feeding and swallowing disorders, as well as diagnostic assessment and evaluation, one-on-one and group therapy sessions, training and information sessions for parents, online diagnostics, therapy services, and parent seminars.

Our mission and ultimate goal is to help our children reach their maximal potential. The first step and a key to successful therapy is a comprehensive assessment of all areas of your child’s development. It allows identify strengths and weaknesses, understand causes and mechanisms of the disorder, and develop an individualized treatment plan to build necessary skills. We believe that family plays an important role in their child’s success and strongly encourage parents and caregivers to observe therapy sessions, actively participate in the process, ask questions, and attend parent seminars.

Initial Consultation

A 60-minute initial consultation is typically conducted in the office. A specialist will interact directly with a child, interview parents, review pertinent medical records, and follow up with a discussion of results and general recommendations.

Short Assessment

A short assessment usually takes place in the office and runs around 60-90 minutes. We will examine your child’s articulation, fluency, voice, language, feeding and swallowing skills using norm-referenced and standardized tests, checklists, and dynamic assessment procedures. Upon completion, parents are provided with a one-page summary and general recommendation.

Formal Evaluation

This is the most comprehensive type of evaluation that may take up to 4 hours. It can be conducted in the office, child’s home, daycare, or school. A formal and informal assessment of all areas of your child’s communication, oral-motor, feeding and swallowing skills, in conjunction with teacher/doctor interview and review of medical records, results in a complete evaluation report.

Individual Therapy Sessions

Individual speech-language, feeding and swallowing, oral-motor, or social skills therapy sessions are held in the office and can be supplemented with home-based, daycare or school-based sessions when necessary. Sessions are typically 30, 45, or 60-minute long and include transitioning to the therapy area, direct interaction with a child, a brief discussion of session results with parents, and homework assignment.

Group Therapy Sessions

Social Skills Groups run once a week for 60 minutes. They are a great addition to individual therapy sessions, which are designed to practice individual therapy results in real-life situations. Every child has multiple opportunities to exercise new skills in a small group of peers. Groups are matched by age and developmental level: 2-3 years, 3-4 years, 4-5 years, and 5-6 years of age.

Feeding Groups are tailored to each child’s individual needs and designed utilizing SOS Approach to Feeding . Eating is a social experience and children are more likely to eat better and try new food when they are in a group. During structured mealtimes, each child works on his or her own goals and participates in a group activity. Children have opportunities to explore new foods while playing: we look and learn about different types of food, smell and taste it. Our specialists encourage kids to manipulate undesired foods by touching, cutting, stirring, poking, smashing, squeezing, rolling, throwing, and even melting.

Family Training Sessions

Family training is an integral part of therapy that is typically conducted at the end of each session. Additional training sessions for parents may be scheduled when necessary to address specific concerns.

Therapist/teacher consultations

To ensure that therapy sessions are effective and make positive changes in your child’s performance, our specialists may schedule home or school-based consultations to meet and collaborate with other therapists and teachers.

Parent Seminars

One-hour parent seminars are scheduled upon request and cover hot topics on child development. Our goal is to explain in more details what may be going on with your child, provide parents with hands-on strategies to boost child’s speech and language development during everyday home activities, and answer questions. Some popular topics are apraxia of speech, autism, transitioning to solid foods, and behavior management. Please send us a message and let us know about your particular areas of interest.

Online Assessment & Therapy Sessions

Our therapists have extensive experience providing speech, language, feeding, oral-motor evaluation and treatment services online to address the needs of our customers when they are travelling, or simply reside in another state or country. For New York residents, Internet sessions can be arranged in addition to office sessions, or to replace face-to-face consultations during final stages of therapy.
